A UNIQUE PLACE, AN EXCEPTIONAL TERROIR

HISTORY

It all started with Michel Poudou, a native of the Minervois region. Since the 17th century, his family has been making wine in the region. You could say that it is in his DNA. Michel has worked all his life as a Flying Winemaker. His activity and his passion have taken him all over the world: first in France, then in the United States, China, North Africa, India, [...] and Spain.

It was there that he met Julian Lopèz Olaso, who called on his expertise to create a winery in the Utiel-Requena region, near Valencia in Spain. From 1993 to 2008, they built the beautiful Bodega Chozas Carrascal together. It is a great success!

WINERY

The vineyard of Saint-Jean-de-Minervois is situated on a south-facing lacustrine limestone plateau. It is here, at the foot of the Montagne Noire, at an altitude of between 280 and 300 metres, that we cultivate our 17 hectare vineyard.

The soils are shallow and very stony, which plays an important role in the life of our vines. The stones that cover the soil, which make it difficult to work the vines, release the heat accumulated during the day at night, thus keeping the temperatures in balance and ensuring that the grapes ripen very well over the year. The yields are therefore low but of very high quality!

WINES

The appellation "Muscat de Saint-Jean-de-Minervois" is used solely for Vins Doux Naturels (VDN) made from a single grape variety: Muscat blanc à petits grains.

That's why our other cuvées, which are also grown in Saint-Jean-de-Minervois but are not Vins Doux Naturels, are respectively AOC Pays d'Oc for our dry white wine "Prélude" and AOP Minervois for our red wines "Canyon de l'Eglise" and "Chant des Pierres".
